[Gold September Global Childhood Cancer Awareness Campaign]
Every September, buildings, ruins, bridges, and natural assets symbolizing each region of each country are lit up in gold, the theme color of childhood cancer, to raise awareness of the importance of childhood cancer treatment and to “shine a light” on the medical care and research that children need. This is a global campaign that began in the United States in 2015, and will be held in Japan from 2021 by the Japan Childhood Cancer Group (JCCG). The project is being led by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, and in 2024, illuminations and related events will be held at 126 locations across the country, including Tokyo Skytree.
